How
to Choose the Right Chairmat
(See below for pricing)
Selecting
the right chairmat for any work area begins by choosing the
most appropriate shape. The two standard
shapes and three designer shapes are illustrated at right. |
Over
90 percent of all requirements are usually met by the Single
Lip and Rectangular shapes. When stock shapes
don't fully meet the needs of a given area, custom-shaped chairmats
can be ordered. |
Once
the shape is selected, determine the ideal size. While the most-ordered
chairmat
size is 45" × 53", stock chairmats are available
in sizes ranging from 36" × 48" up to 72"
×
96". Make your decision by considering the total floor
space available, the width of space
under the desk or workstation, the size of the chair base and
the range of front-to-back
and side-to-side movement you want without rolling off the edge
of the chairmat. Regardless
of the shape, the measurements are always given in overall dimensions
including lip. |
The
next important factor is knowing if
the chairmat will be used over carpet or
over a hard surface like linoleum tile or
hardwood. Chairmats used over padded,
plush carpeting need to be more rigid and
thicker than those placed on unpadded
commercial carpeting. |
For
carpets 3/8" thick or less (including pad), |
choose
Economy or Intermediate thickness. For carpets 3/4" or
less, use Standard thickness. For all carpets, but particularly
those
3/4" or thicker including pad, choose Premium. |
As
indicated in the chart, all chairmats for use over carpet are
offered with Anchorpoints® which nest in the carpet
and keep the mat firmly in place. Chairmats for use on hard
surfaces do not have Anchorpoints but are textured on
both sides to minimize movement. |
For
safety and ease, most chairmats are ordered with beveled edges
instead of blunt or straight edges (Straight Edge).
We offer both designs. The most popular Beveled Edge®
chairmats feature the exclusive, molded
Crystal Edge®. |

The
final feature to consider is antistatic protection for computers,
magnetic media and other electronic equipment.
Just as a power surge device protects against electric current
spikes, Anti-Static chairmats protect against
harmful
static discharges that can destroy files and cause computers
and software to malfunction. |
